Frank was born and raised in Amsterdam (the city where the coffeeshops usually sell something else as well). He studied computer science at the University of Amsterdam and went on to work as a software engineer for various companies, including a bank and the gaming industry. The past five years he's focused exclusively on iOS and mobile web. Frank has also studied photography at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam.
His audio career started in 1990 during his days as a student with a somewhat serious system, consisting of a Kenwood receiver, JVC cd player, Aiwa cassette deck, Onkyo turntable and BNS speakers. From there it progressed via a long and treacherous road to the systems described below.
Frank's taste in music is mostly progressive rock and metal, various styles of jazz and classical and some other bits and bobs thrown in for good measure. He plays bass guitar in a prog rock band called Eye and also dabbles with guitar and piano.
His philosophy is that audio gear is a tool and not a means in itself. It's about being able to enjoy an artist's work and nothing else. It's about getting carried away and going on an adventure. This may seem straightforward, but he actually knows a few people who see this differently. He also believes continuity and stability is best. Find something you like and stick with it (at least for a while).
Frank now operates three hi-fi sets. Systems One and Three reside in a dedicated music room (for which he is eternally grateful to his dashing girlfriend). System Two provides sonic entertainment in the living room and hopefully won't get trashed by Frank's daughter, who is now two and a half and exploring the world mostly by touch...
Writing for TNT is his first attempt at journalism of any kind and he's excited to be able to explore this field.
