Sad news: TNT is sad to report the passing away of Jim Thiel of Thiel Loudspeakers who
died of cancer on September the 18th 2009. Jim Thiel was best known for the high-performance speakers and subwoofers
that bear his name, and the hi-fi world has lost one of its iconic names.
Jim co-founded THIEL Audio Products of Lexington, Kentucky in 1976, and the company has grown to become one of the best known names in loudspeaker manufacturing. Like many of us, his love of music and hi-fi went back to his
childhood, and an academic career in physics and mathematics enabled him to pursue his hobby on a more serious basis. His loudspeaker designs have won countless awards over the last thirty years, the Thiel C3.7 being considered as one of the best loudspeakers ever produced.
Also widely respected as a quiet gentleman, he was much admired and respected both by those who worked for him, and those who reviewed and bought his products. (N. Whetstone)
